How-to improve search engine ranking

Improved search engine ranking can be achieved by conforming to the mold search engines use to identify quality websites. Like a student taking a test, your site is being graded according to certain criteria; the best score gets the highest rank. You can improve search engine placement if you follow these guidelines.

On-site Website ranking factors

These items must be incluced in the website code directly.

Placement factor Why?
Title tag This becomes the anchor text that shows up in the search engine result listings. It also counts heavily towards the relevancy of your page content. There is only one title tag and it looks like this: <title>My page is about keywords</title>
Header tag Another important signal that indicates page relevancy. A header tag looks like this: <h1>Keywords go here</h1>
Keyword use Include your keywords in your page copy, but don't over-optimize by keyword stuffing. The text should read naturally.
Publishing regularity Every time you update your website with a new article or fresh content you get a small "freshness bump". Do this regularly and you will improve your ranking position. Search engines like sites that are active, not stagnant.
Image use Embed an image within the content of your site whenever possible. Use keywords in the filename and alternate text attribute.
Link usage Link to related pages within your site, but also external websites as well. Make sure the target page is related closely to your topic, and use keywords in the anchor text.
Website address Ideally your domain name should contain the keywords you are targeting. For examble we are an Internet marketing company and one of our keywords is "Internet Marketing" that's why our domain is adeointernetmarketing.com

External search engine placement factors

These items are influenced by the outside.

Placement factor Why?
Inbound links Sites that link to you are casting a vote in your favor. It is seen as a recommendation from a search engine's perspective. Seek out as many links as possible, but avoid low quality links, and give out links to other sites with careful consideration.
Anchor text  A link from an external site is most valuable when the anchor text (underlined text) contains your keywords .
Topical relevance Links from other sites that are related to subject matter of your keyword are of much greater value.
Trustworthiness Not all links pass the same weight in search engine's eyes. Trustworthy and authoritative sites are more powerful.
User behavior Be sure to provide the user with a good user experience and provide valuable content for the keyword you are targeting. Search engines track the amount of time spent on the site and other user behavior and reward sticky sites.

Apply these techniques to your site and you will see your rank improve across all search engines. For more detailed information, download our Internet marketing ebook.
